Expression of Interest – designated charity for the 2012 Mayors’ Golf Tournament

October 15, 2011 at 12:00 am

To North Shore Social Service Agencies;

This is to invite your agency to submit an expression of interest to be considered as the designated charity for the 2012 Mayors Golf Tournament. If selected your agency would be entitled to receive $50,000 in June 2012 to be used for a significant project that otherwise would not be implemented.

The Mayors Golf Tournament is a charitable fund raising event held in May each year for the past four years. One half of the first $100,000 of net proceeds is awarded to a designated charity for immediate benefit and the balance is shared between the two community foundation on the North Shore and added to their endowment funds. Earning realized on those endowment funds are then disbursed through annual grants to various community groups. The three mayors on the North Shore are honourary patrons for the MGT. We attract support from over 60 corporate sponsors and sellout the event with 144 golfers.

 Please tell us in two pages or less why your cause and your agency should be considered for selection as the designated charity. Your submission can be an email, PDF, or Word file format.  Please also attach the most resent copy of your Annual Report (preferably in a PDF file). The criteria we will use to select a project for support are:

  1. Must be a registered Not for Profit  society with a valid CRA number (a qualified donee).
  2. Project must serve the entire North Shore (note that two or more agencies serving the same cause may share the proceeds in order to meet this test).
  3. Must be in need of new funding for a major project— funds should not be used merely to subsidize operating costs. It would also be desirable if the project addressed a possible solution to a problem or if it has a proactive approach to a problem.
  4. Must be an attractive cause for major sponsors of the MGT to help raise overall event revenues.
  5. Must have a sufficient organizational structure to execute and manage the project.

 You should reply by email (or with an attachment to an email) no later than Oct. 15, 2011 to info@nscommunityfoundation.com. We will advise the successful agency only by December 1.
